Is Revance Botox the Next Big Thing?

Is Revance Botox the Next Big Thing

There’s no denying the popularity of minimally-invasive procedures that can help erase the signs of aging. And facial injectables continue to lead the way. Of the nearly 16 million minimally procedures performed in 2017, botulinum toxin Type A, popularly known by the brand name – Botox® topped the list.

Botox® temporarily reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the face by freezing facial muscles.  It targets severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and lines on the forehead.

The brand Botox®  has cornered the market for several years now, and over the past few years, competitors have moved in on its territory, including Dysport® and Xeomin®, which don’t seem to seriously impact the Botox® brand. All of which we offer here at Elias Dermatology.

Enter Revance

Now the cosmetic industry is all abuzz about a new cosmetic facial injectable in the works, that could potentially throw some wrinkles into Botox® brand’s long-running domination. It’s called Revance. The product is still in clinical trials, but is Revance the next big thing? Only time will tell.

Revance already has some serious bragging rights, and it’s not even on the market yet. Now here’s what could be the game-changer: in clinical trials, Revance treatments lasted longer. Botox® treatments usually last anywhere from four to six months - depending on factors including the location of the injection, the amount you received, your age, and depth of your wrinkles. However, the results of a certain Revance study indicated that shots of RT-002 reduced the severity of the frown for six months or more.

Both Botox and Revance Embrace Non-Aesthetic Uses

Revance Botox

There are many uses for botulinum toxin Type A.  And like Botox®, Revance may have other uses, besides aesthetics. The company is conducting clinical trials testing its drug in other areas, including the following: a therapeutic against neck spasms, a common foot ailment, and other non-aesthetic conditions.

There are also plans for the development of a topical form of RT-002 that could be used for aesthetic and therapeutic uses such as excessive sweating, migraine, neuropsychiatric disorders, shingles and other inflammatory diseases.
