Although there are many rules when it comes to taking care of your skin, some are simply fundamental. If you don’t have the time for intensive skin care, there are a few habits and good rules of thumb to help keep your skin clean and smooth.
Here’s what you need to know:
Protect Yourself from The Sun
You’ve probably heard this before, but because it’s so important we want to mention it again. One of the most crucial factors in protecting your skin is simply keeping it out of the sun. Long amounts of sun exposure can lead to wrinkles, aging spots, and increases your chances of cancer.
For total protection, you should first use the right sunscreen. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen of at least 30 SPF. Apply the sunscreen generously across the face and body, and re-apply it after swimming or entering the water. You should also make sure to re-apply the lotion every two hours, or if you’re sweating heavily, as this may cause quicker absorption.
You should also try and seek shade whenever possible, in order to reduce the amount of time in the sun, especially between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm, where the sun’s rays are the strongest. If you really want to go the extra mile, use protective clothing, such as long-sleeve shirts and sun-protective clothing whenever you are outside.
Daily cleansing and shaving can really have an impact on your skin. In order to gently take care of your skin, it’s important that you limit your bath and shower time. Using steaming hot water can take a toll on your skin, so it is best to use warm water as an alternative. You should also avoid strong soaps and detergents that can strip natural oil from your skin and even your hair.
To protect and lubricate your skin, you should be using the proper shaving creams or gels in order to go gently when using a razor. For the best shave, use a sharp and clean razor and make sure to shave in the direction that hair grows, and not against it. After washing or bathing, you should also gently pat or blot your skin instead of wiping it.
If your skin is dry, it is also best to use a moisturizer that is right for your skin type. For example, there are moisturizers exclusive to dry skin, oily skin or sensitive skin. For daily use, you should use a moisturizer that contains SPF in order to gain full protection during the day.
You are what you eat. A healthy diet will make you feel and look your best, as long as you’re eating the right foods. You should be eating a good amount of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean proteins. Some research also suggests that a diet including fish oil or fish oil vitamins may also help in promoting younger looking skin. Additionally, drinking water and exercising at least three times a week with cardio is important in making sure your skin, body, and mind are healthy and stable.
Stress can be a huge factor when it comes to your skin, especially sensitive skin. Uncontrolled stress can make your skin more prone to breakouts and skin issues. To ensure healthy skin, and a healthy state of mind, take steps to manage your stress, such as meditating. You should get a good amount of sleep, stabilize your to-do list and do things you truly enjoy.
